How to Make Self-Care Something You Can Actually do?

If you’re an achiever AND people-pleaser like me, this is probably a question you ask yourself a lot.

I know I used to. I spent every waking moment feeling like I was behind and trying to keep my head above water. It took me years to feel like myself again and that I wasn’t consumed with work.

I Asked Teachers Their WHY,

Here’s What They Said

This time last year, I didn’t know how I could go a year teaching in the midst of a pandemic. It was risky, anxiety-inducing, and felt next to impossible. While it was still some of those things, I made it: rearranging supplies, dozens of face masks, sanitizing like a crazy person, and a lot of Zoom calls later. It was a lot, and if I didn’t have my WHY at the ready, I’m not sure how I would have kept a positive mindset. You made it too. While the changes and school year will likely look a lot different next year, there will still be challenges.

Teaching has always been a stressful career choice, after all. But it’s IMPORTANT, fulfilling, and fun too. So why do teachers do it? I talked to 25 teachers, and here’s what I learned.

Disorganized?

These Tips Can Help.

Maybe there are some things that are specific to you and your subject or your situation. But there are a lot of organizational tips that might be helpful for all of us. After talking with a variety of educators, here are some I’ve learned.

Teachers Need This Routine

I BELIEVE THAT THE #1 THING WE ALL NEED FOR LESS STRESS IS MORE HABITS. More times when we don’t have to think about every little action we are taking to move the needle forward and can rely on our routine and discipline, rather than motivation. More daily actions that can allow us more focus, energy, and a positive attitude.

WITHOUT making it feel like it’s just another thing on our to-do list. One important thing for me as a teacher has always been to win the morning.

Trying To Eat Healthier

Next School Year

I know the jam. You spend all summer being active, going pee when you want, getting to actually chew your food, and making your lunch when you feel like it.

School hits, life is busy. Do you meal plan? Do you take snack foods for lunch? Do you skip it all together? Opt for something from the cafeteria?

Whatever was your routine last year...was it serving you? If not, let’s chat. Because you don’t HAVE TIME to eat healthy. Or do you?

#1 Rule For Teacher Positivity

A little nugget I read once that has always stuck with me: You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time around.

Who are those 5? (kiddos don’t count) For some of us, it might be our partner, friends, or other members of our family, BUT because we spend A LOT of our time at work, there is a good chance some of those 5 are your coworkers.
